Multiplying and Dividing Fractions
For multiplication, multiply numerators and denominators; reduce first for easier numbers. For division, flip the second fraction and multiply. Write integers over 1.
Multiplication
2/3 x 3/4 = 6/12 = 1/2.
Cross-cancel before multiplying.
Division
2/3 / 4/5 = 2/3 x 5/4 = 10/12 = 5/6.
Divide by a fraction = multiply by its reciprocal.
FAQ
Why multiply by the reciprocal?
Dividing by a/b is the same as multiplying by b/a.
Can I reduce first?
